Okone: the restaurant where sushi meets picanha

Do you have that friend who never goes to a sushi restaurant with you because he/she doesn’t like it? Well, here’s the perfect excuse to visit this new space: Okone.

Being sushi fans and of unconventional concepts, we were very curious when we knew that there was a new restaurant in Porto with Japanese, Peruvian and Brazilian cuisine. This means that in Okone you can eat sushi and Picanha (Brazilian stake) in the same place. Yes, you read it right … Picanha!

The restaurant is filled with paintings made by the Chef Jairo, where art merges with the culinary in a very cool way.

Okone is a recent restaurant on Nossa Sra. de Fátima street at Boavista. However, this concept was born in Brazil (São Paulo) and after winning the heart of Brazilians, they chose to take a risk and try winning the heart of the Portuguese. And for us, they did it!

The space

Appetizers

All dishes are prepared and supervised by the Chef, meaning more waiting time to eat, but totally worth it.

Glutony is a sin we are always committing, so we decided to start by ordering two salmon and philadelphia spicy temakis (p/€4.90) and okone guiosas (€5.90 p/4 units).

And for anyone who loves a well stuffed temaki… you won’t be disappointed. Trust us!

Main dishes

There were so many different dishes in the menu we wanted to try, so we ended up choosing the tasting menu (€29.90) in which they served 5 plates selected by the chef (Japanese and Peruvian). And of course, we had to order the famous Picanha Angus (€15.90).

Peruvian dishes

The surprise of the night? The dishes of the Peruvian cuisine. We had never tasted Peruvian food and now we are fans. Specially of the Ceviche and Causa.

Japanese dishes

The Picanha Angus

Okone Porto

The Picanha can be ordered either with a thick or thin cut, depending on individual taste, and the side dishes can be ordered without limit.

No space for dessert

All the dishes were very tasty, where every detail is thought to detail. At the end of the night our favorite dishes were the temakis, the ceviche and the causa.

We can’t finish this post without the sharing about the table service of Theo, that on each plate explained to us a little bit of its history and how each was prepared. We highly recommend this restaurant if you’re thinking of visiting Porto! You’ll thank us later!

And now?

Which of these cuisines are you more curious to try?

Life is full of choices,

When in doubt, flip a coin.
