The other side of the coin

For months, we thought what would be the perfect first post about fashion.

All beginnings make us step out of our comfort zone, and this time we were afraid of the uncertain and had a constant feeling of butterflies in our stomachs.

Sometimes we live too stuck to what we consider to be “right”. As the years go by we stop having the courage to risk and do something new.

So we choose not to choose anymore.

Our stylist and friend, Patrícia de Oliveira, accepted the challenge: “Choose everything for us”.

Hugo Fortuna, the photographer, too.

Without control of anything, we decided to take a risk.

Clothes

Fabrics, sizes, colours and patterns. If we think about it, it’s just clothes.

We always fall on the same safe choice: jeans, a black or white t-shirt and leather jacket. No matter the occasion, we feel confident with the James Dean style.

“Patrícia, just one thing, only skinny jeans, please!”.

Guess not. She showed us to the other side of the coin: baggy pants, super baggy. Big sweater, XL t-shirts. Menswear and womenswear (making us think of why clothes need to have a specific gender assigned). But… isn’t it just clothes?.

Patricia’s inspiration was the “lighthearted and unconcerned artist”, even knowing that we can be fashion overthinkers a lot of the times. Immediate discomfort seeing Patrícia pull everything out of her bags, but that’s exactly what we wanted without even knowing it.

Photography

We didn’t know Hugo, neither did he know all of our preferences and cliché poses.

In a world where Instagram is the new window to the world, filled with the best studied angles and filters, we were again feeling like fish out of water.

But when he took the first shot, we immediately knew we had made the right choice. Without any previously studied poses, without any concerns of what filter to apply or what audience we would please.

It felt amazing.

It was the right way to start this adventure.

And you? Why don’t you put on that piece that still lies in your wardrobe with a tag on. Wear something that is beyond your comfort zone. Afterall, fashion is more than just clothes, right?
